Lorenzo Santelli

etVitrum was founded by Lorenzo Santelli,
a structural engineer and architect passionate about
contributing with his expertise to challenging projects.

Lorenzo is licensed to practice both engineering
and architecture, and his specialist glass expertise
stretches from concept to construction.

He gained his extensive experience from working in
the building and marine industries in Italy, the United
Kingdom and Singapore.

Glass and acrylic specialist structural design with
proposals for panelisation and manufacturing
strategies taking into consideration thermal design
and environmental requirements.

Handling of complex geometries and structural
analysis based on the finite element method, and
preparation of calculations for both tender and
construction.

Preparation of taylor-made technical specifications
with the identification of the most suitable
fabrication procedures as well as the appropriate
manufacturing tolerances.

Technical support during the interaction with the
classification societies and flag administrations, and
assistance in preparing the required technical
documentation for formal approval.

Preparation of optical quality-control protocols and
classification of visual and manufacturing defects for
factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance
testing (SAT).

Providing technical support for glass physical-testing,
fracture analysis and post-breakage testing.

Lorenzo is an active member of ISO working group
TC8 SC12 WG2 Ship and Marine Technology, Safety
and Hull Integrity.

He recently accepted the challenge of leading the
development of ISO 11336-4 a new ISO standard
dedicated to the design of skylights and glass pools
on large yachts.

Since 2019, Lorenzo has successfully combined his
professional activities with an academic post-
graduate lecturing role at the Architectural
Association - School of Architecture, in London.

In October 2023, he presented A Generative Approach
towards the Design of a Spherical Structural Envelope

at the Advances in Architectural Geometry (AAG)
conference held at the University of Stuttgart.

In August 2024, Lorenzo also presented A Structural Grindshell at the Upper Deck of a cruise Ship at IASS
2024 held at ETH Zürich.
